I’m so very proud and excited to share that I’m part of the new ownership group for the Chicago Red Stars of the NWSL, a team I’ve supported and cheered on for years. I never, ever could’ve dreamed I’d have the opportunity to be the owner of a professional sports team… WILD.
After being in owner’s meetings for months, I’m so pumped to finally go public with the news and really get working in earnest to bring even more attention, investment and eyeballs to the oldest and winningest women’s professional soccer team in America.
This is not an ownership group in just investment or just in name; we’re a committed group of people with Chicago ties and deep fandom who are hands-on and ready to help elevate this team and this group of badass women. Longtime owner Arnim Whisler and his team have presided over the Red Stars since the beginning, from tough times to sell-out crowds, and now will help lead this group as we enter a brand new era for the NWSL. From the star-studded Angel City FC ownership group to big-name owners joining the Courage, Spirit and KC, massive players in the sports, entertainment and business worlds are betting on women.
I’m beyond thrilled to join the ranks of women I very much admire, who helped inspire this move for me, including Julie Foudy, Abby Wambach, Glennon Doyle, Mia Hamm, Jennifer Garner, Natalie Portman, Billie Jean King and Serena Williams.
These owners’ suites are gonna be lit, ladies!
Can’t wait to get down to work and help inspire change across the face of pro sports ownership, not just in women’s sports but men’s, too. The biggest way to affect the lack of diversity at the top of sports is through ownership that better reflects the make-up of the team’s players, staff, fans and cities.
Up until now most of the high profile women in sports ownership have earned their roles via birth or marriage, but in recent years we’ve seen badass business women, former star players and lifelong execs getting into the mix, allowing every little girl to dream of not just a career as a professional athlete, but in the front office and owner’s box, too.
Fingers crossed I’ll get to see ALL OF YOU at Red Stars games in person this summer. Can’t wait to share a love of this team with the existing die-hard fans and introduce some of you to what you’ve been missing.
